Duty Driver and the World of Warcraft

Well, things continually seem to change with me lately.  Where I was once just a member of maintenance, now I am the TPU duty driver.  Kinda weird how I was once actually working and now, not so much.  This is a weird job, since all it requires is that I answer a phone and then drive people around in a government vehicle and most of the time, that’s not even that long a way since the airport is the most common destination/origin for the trips I make and it’s maybe 5 minutes away from base.  So I basically sit around in my utilities in Liberty in Paradise or over at Club Pearl/Jaggers Cafe and play around on the internet on my laptop until about 3:30 PM at which point I am ‘on call’.

What sucks is the fact that I have to work every other weekend, though this is actually just ‘on call’.  It’s not like I have to stay on base during the weekend, but I have to respond to people when they call from the USO or if the TPU quarterdeck calls me.  However, I now work a 5-2/2-5 schedule.  Meaning I work 5 days a week one week and get two days off (in the middle of the week) and then the next week I only have to work 2 days and I am off the other five.  Now, you can’t beat that really.  Especially when the job is not that difficult in the first place.  What sucks is when they call you at like 1 am and ask you to pick someone up at the airport.  That irritates the hell out of me, but it is worth it since it means I work less than normal.

Also, I have been playing a lot of World of Warcrack this week.  I am dedicated to getting Zanatose (my undead affliction warlock) to level 70 BEFORE Wrath of the Lich King come out.  I am tired of being ganked by alliance assholes who have nothing better to do than kill horde characters that are 20 to 30 levels lower than they are just because we happen to be there.  Yeah well, the shoe will be on the other foot soon, my pretty elven fags.  Soon you will know pain and the path to death!  I am going to love making your ass walk 200 miles back to your corpse and even then, I am going to camp and kill your ass over and over again just like you do me right now!  You have been warned!

What’s Been Happening…

I haven’t made a post in a while, so I figured I would update my blog while allowing the battery to run down on my laptop as a sort of preventive maintenance check. With a lithium battery, it improves the life if you allow it to run down and then recharge to full power. I would also like to buy an additional battery pack for this baby, so when I am on an air plane I can just pop out the empty battery pack and put the new one in and turn the system back on. As it is, with the 4GB of RAM, the battery does indeed run down quite a bit faster than it did before (since it is powering more memory).

What have I been doing? Well, I am now LIMDU or on a limited duty status and I will be losing my orders to the USS Chosin (aka, the worse ship in the Navy according to the Navy Times). In fact, last Friday I completely emptied my rack, locker, and my inbox in the shop. It’s now as if I was never there, with the exception that I have a lot of friends there. What’s ironic is it took me getting off the ship to finally join Mason, Hunsaker, and the others at Mason’s apartment in Ewa to actually game some which is what I did last Saturday afternoon.

Now I will be off a ship for a year, living the life in Hawaii without that annoying ass duty and underway thing that normal sailors have to deal with on a regular basis.

Despite this, I will eventually (after my surgeries) be placed back on a horrible floating ball of rust to work 14 hours a day in port and 18 while at sea.

On a happier note, I am currently a ‘grounds keeper’ at the Transient Personnel Unit for Pearl Harbor. This means not really working past 4:00 PM and sometimes (especially on Friday) not working at all and simply being sent home. This makes it easier for me to lose weight since the stress is less and the food better at home and I am not forced to consume that shit the Navy serves in any galley whether ashore or afloat. In fact, I have lost 3 more pounds this weekalone, which means I am closer to my 75 lb loss by the end of July.

Anyway, my next surgery is scheduled for the 23rd of July at Tripler. It probably would have been sooner, but my surgeon had to go to Iraq for a month on a ‘mission’.

Hawaiian Scottish Festival

Well, the Sarah wants to go down to Kapiolani Park tomorrow and go to the Scottish Festival being held in Honolulu.  Wow, didn’t think Hawaii would even HAVE anything like that.  It’d be nice if they had a renaissance festival as well, but I think that’d be asking too much.  Regardless, I will be taking pictures. :P

Monday I will be working at the CSCS building near where the ship is berthed.  I bet Dease and myself end up cleaning classrooms all day. -.-

New Logo!

Kevin Yancey has finished the new logo for Realms of Evil Games Publishing.  The former logo was lost in the many moves I have made since I joined the Navy and now the computer it was originally on has gone the way of the dodo.

I like this one better, anyway…it has more ‘character’.

The new logo

Why?

I’d like to know why the hell people seem to think the Navy is more than a job.  I go there everyday to work, in order to get paid, so I can feed myself/my family as well as pay my bills.  Doesn’t that sound like a job to you?  You got jackasses on various military forums that are retired who seem to think that I am some sort of shitbag because I treat the Navy as a job. In my opinion, these old fools just can’t move on with their lives and are so brainwashed by the military that they feel the need to go gungho on a forum on a daily basis.

I try to tell the new guys how this job really is and do not attempt to candy coat shit like a recruiter does and because of my realism, I am labeled either a traitor or a shit bag.  Wow, get a life you old fucks and move on with your life or die.  I couldn’t give a shit which you choose because you already have one foot in the grave anyway.

On watch and bored..

I am currently sitting on board the USS Chosin, standing watch in the Combat Systems Maintenance Center (CSMC).  Not a whole lot to do on this watch but sit around, awnser phones and of course, play around online for five hours.  See, this is why I changed my blog to here rather than MySpace.  See, the goverment has a thing against MySpace since it is so filled with viruses, porn, etc. and also seems to distract people from actually working.  Now I primarily use it to upload my pictures to and to check out bands and maybe post on the U.S. Navy group there.  I found a really cool band there the other day calling themselves Alestorm.  This band claimed to be scottish pirate metal and I’ll be damned if that isn’t what they sound like.  So I downloaded their album from iTunes. :P  I am currently listening to “Wenches and Mead”.  I am sure you can guess.

10,000 B.C. Review

As a fan of books such as Clan of the Cave Bear and the Ancient America series by Kathleen and Micheal O’Gear, I decided that Sarah and I would go and watch the movie 10,000 B.C.  The movie was actually pretty good, even though some of the acting had something to be desired.  Due to the fact that it was written and directed by Rolan Emmerich of Star Gate fame, I knew that Egypt would somehow be involved (and I was right!).

Basically, it follow the travels and trials of a young man from a tribe in the mountains whose tribe is attacked by Egyptian slavers who drag off many of the stronger men as well as the love of his life, a woman with crystal blue eyes who is apparently part of a grand prophecy.  He and three other men from his tribe that manage to escape from the original attack set off after the slavers, hoping to catch them and free their people from slavery.  In reality, he simply wants to get his woman/wife back and he could really care less about any sort of prophecy.  They meet up with several tribes of Africans who have also suffered from the slavery of the Egyptians.  They create this spear wielding army, and after being lost in the desert for days, finally come upon a grand city with, you guess it, pyramids!  Their brethren are being forced to help build these pyramids and after a massive battle they’re freed and a revolt ends in the death of the ‘pharaoh’ who is the movie’s big bad.

I am not going to get into a long and drawn out synopsis like Ari would, but let’s say that I liked the movie and give it a 4 out of 5.

Lord Hannible Holmes Art Description

I really liked this art description, but apparently none of the artists at EN World were willing to take on the challenge of my art descriptions like Kevin Yancey does. With the exception of Chainlightning of course, who did a spectacular job with Zanatose.

Lord Hannible Holmes of Cormyr

A Small Historical Background
After his great grandfather Lothmoren killed many people in his insane experiments, Hannible had much to do to bring honor back to his family name. In order to accomplish this, Hannible joined the Purple Dragons of Cormyr at a very young age (14) and trained hard to become a warrior worthy of recognition. He also begin training as a paladin of the god Lathlander, the deity of the sun and dawn, for he knew that eventually he would have to take back his family’s ancestral home, a run-down castle at the edge of their lands that was reportedly rife with the walking dead created by his recent ancestor. However, Hannible ran into an evil that surpassed even that of his grandfather one winter day that ended his mortal life and began him on the same vile path that his grandfather had traveled during the last three decades of his life. This evil was Zanatose Everhate, a powerful undead drow wizard and cleric of Bane who ripped his mortal heart from his chest with one boney hand and replaced it with a malignant growth with the other in one smooth motion of magic. With the necromantic magic pumping the blood through his veins, he succumbed and turned into what he hated the most, the undead. Zanatose had selected Hannible years before to become his general and had watched in the shadows, waiting for the day when the boy would become a man. The new vampire had the bloodline and ancient talent of magic within him and that was what the lich wanted in an apprentice. Unfortunately, the lich had neglected to realize the willpower of his general and eventually lost control of him. The two became bitter enemies, striking out at one another whenever a hint of the other’s presence was detected in anything.

Appearance: Hannible attempts to hold onto his past as a noble warrior dedicated to Cormyr’s protection by continuing to wear his now old and marred armor of office. Just before he was turned, he had acquired the title of Oversword and was made commander of a small platoon of knights which protected a nearby bridge. The armor he wore had been a present from his father who had it specially made for the occaison. Unfortunately, the armor had also been blessed by Lathander’s church, and its mere touch burned the vampire lord’s flesh once it was corrupted. The suns on the arm and legplates that had so artisitically been crafted from magic paints are deliberately scratched (the symbol of the sun harms Hannible) and the enchanted metal itself is now rusted and old with pitted holes marring its surface. The breastplate’s decoration is a powerful snake-like purple dragon that winds around his body three times, it’s tail starting at his waist and its face ending just below the vampire lord’s neck, jaws open as if to feed from the vampire’s own blood.

His hair, which had once been the color of the night sky now has long grey streaks running through it as if it had been unnaturally aged from the process of the turn (He keeps his hair tired back out of his face, but the pose should show that he has long hair by either having the hair over one shoulder or from the side somehow). His face, handsome at one time (all planes and angles), is now grizzled and feral in appearance like a predatory wolf king. A short beard and mustach now cover the lower part of his face in order to try and hide a bit of the wolfish appearance, especially when his sharpened teeth are extended. His eyes do not glow, but are completely red in color as if the interior of his eyes were now filled with the blood of his victims. Unlike most of his lesser kin, Hannible does not appear to be the epitome of male beauty and is actually quite frightening and intimidating, even when not trying to be. He does not drip with sexual power, but instead is the vision of an angry king waiting for someone to swing for his amusement.

In addition to his old armor, the vampire lord keeps a silver cape draped around his neck that is both beautiful and magical in nature, decorated with small embossed dragons that are dark purple in color. He fights with a sword and a staff at the same time. His unnatural strength and speed allow him to do so without much problem and the magical items (only one which he created, the sword was a present from his ‘master’ Zanatose and contains the soul of his mortal lover, Marianae). The staff allows him to cast spells without the need of somantic and material components (thus allowing him to fight two-handed and still cast spells) at the cost of his own health (which is quickly healed by his vampiric abilities). So the pose in question should have the vampire lord either with the staff gripped in both hands and the sword sheathed at his waist or in a battle stance with the sword and staff out and ready for combat.

The staff, also called the Staff of Bloody Kings (or the Blood Staff by common folk who have seen it used), looks like a simple wooden staff that has been carved rather clumbsily to contain the screaming faces and bodies of the damned, all entertwined and in some cases coming together as one. Dark stains cover the weapon from top to bottom, a testament to whatever abilities it may confer on its wielder. The decoration at the top is a simple golden crown that has barbed points to inflict more damage. The sword, Sanguine, is an intelligent weapon of significant power. The blade, made from a clear crystalline material of magical origin, is hooked at the end like a large tooth or as if a scythe blade has been somehow added to the sword for the added benefit of being able to behead an opponent in a single strike. When in combat, bloody mist can be seen drawn from an enemy’s wounds into the sword itself, bloating the blade and turning it a bright crimson in color.

Whether in combat or at rest, the vampire lord always has a palpable aura of magic surrounding him and will often stave off boredom by casting spells on himself just to experience the rush of magic through his otherwise unfeeling corpse of a body.

Elitism Rant

You know, most gamers are nice people, if not a bit scary looking (seriously, 45 year old 300 lbs. with a grizzly adams beard and unkempt long hair can scare normal people guys!).  However, the online community as a whole has a lot of what I term ‘elitist assholes’.  Just because someone doesn’t play ‘your’ gaming system, doesn’t make them less than you and deserving of constant flames and derision.  Seriously, get a life and a girl friend.  If you can’t login to a set of forums without making someone else feel stupid, then perhaps you’d better turn off your computer and go do something else with your existence and allow those of us who want to have civil and stimulating conversation about any type of system to do so in peace.  This is why the rules of posting at the Pits of Evil are so large and comprehensive, just to avoid this idiocy.

A lot of sites are BAD about this, especially in the RPG community *coughRPG.NETcough*.  I know I have mentioned D20 sometimes on a site and then been flamed to hell for it because I must be a powergaming munchkin who can’t appreciate the intricacies of the D10 dice pool system created by White Wolf.   Well, excuse me for living!  I happen to play WoD frequently and own many a book by White Wolf.  I just CHOOSE to play Dungeons and Dragons more often because it was my ‘gateway’ RPG.

In short: Get a life

Being a Host?

I am thinking, since Realms of Evil now has ridiculous amount of bandwidth and webspace, of hosting select sites created by members of the Pits of Evil. I am not sure exactly how to do it yet, but I do know I have the ability to create unique FTP accounts with permissions for one one select directory. So I could create a subdomain for the people I am hosting and have their FTP account allow them access to that directory under my host.
